Redoubt 9, Yorktown Day 2007
Commemoration.

The American Society of Le Souvenir Français Inc., was represented at 19 October 2007 Yorktown Day ceremonies by a delegation led by Serge G. Gabriel (Col. Ret.), Vice-President for New England, Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route (W3R-USA) Association.

Delegation participants were:
Nicole Yancey (Sec. W3R-US and Honorary Consul of France for VA).
Simone Marchant (DC -French singer).
Juliette Carrere (DC French War veterans and Souvenir Francais flag bearer).
Carl Nittinger (W3R-PA).
Blanche Hunnewell (W3R-MA).
Several members of the Federation of World War Veterans, Washington Committee.
Rene KELLER (from Nancy, France, where there is an Arc of Triumph to the War of Independence,erected by Louis XVI, also showing 8 names of local citizens who died at Yorktown) and Mme Keller.
Col. and Mrs. Gabriel, Vice-President, Souvenir Français, New England Committee.

With the flag of the Souvenir Francais, the delegation took part in commemorative activities at 1) the French Cemetery, 2) the French Trench (with the laying of a wreath), 3) in the Yorktown Day Parade, and in a moving, memorial ceremony held at Redoubt no. 9. in the afternoon (between 2:30pm-3:30pm). The memorial ceremony was conducted as follows:
1.Introductory historical remarks by Col. Gabriel.
2.Reading of the following names by Commandant Keller --- each name followed by the mention "Mort au champ d'honneur" read by Col. Gabriel.

3.Commandant Keller read also the eight names of the soldiers, originating from Nancy, who died at Yorktown, and whose names today appear on a memorial plaque at the Porte Desilles, originally Porte Stainville, Place Carnot at Nancy, France.
4.Observing a minute of silence in the memory of all those whose names were previously read.
5.Laying of the wreath on a cannon carriage by Commandant Keller and Col. Gabriel.
6.Singing of La Marseillaise by Simone Marchant, followed by the US National anthem.
